If you’re trying to determine the right career path for you, it’s important to consider your personality type as well as your interests and skillset. There’ll be a lot of roles that you find interesting, but that doesn’t mean you’ll enjoy them. In this article, we’ve picked out 5 career paths for those who consider themselves to be extreme extroverts.

Sales

The most obvious career path for a raging extrovert is a career in sales. A sales role will demand you don’t just deal with strangers, but build a relationship with them to the point where they are prepared to hand over cash for the product or service you are selling. You’ll need to be comfortable with interacting with strangers to the point where you can build trust and persuade them, which obviously requires a high degree of confidence.

You’ll also need to be prepared to be rejected, as most of the people you speak to won’t want to purchase your product. In most cases, introverts don’t deal well with rejection which is another reason why sales is suited to extroverted personalities, which are usually able to handle rejection and even confrontation.

Read: Africa e-Learning Market: Transforming Education Across a Continent

Politics

If you’ve got thick skin, a talent for public speaking and an interest in public affairs then a career in politics could be the perfect route for you to take. It’s fair to say there haven’t been very many introverted politicians over the course of history, and that’s because politicians spend large parts of their days negotiating deals, interacting with members of the public, answering difficult questions and so on — all things an introverted individual would hate.

If you want to make it to the top of the game in politics, you’ll also need to be a fantastic leader, capable of convincing others to follow your lead and in certain instances, to vote for you. Another factor that makes a career in politics best suited to extroverts is the fact you’ll spend very little time alone.

Broadcasting

The most extroverted people are often comfortable in front of the camera (or behind the microphone), and as a result, a career in broadcasting can be a good fit. Most start out as journalists, but this can easily progress to roles like presenting and hosting, whether that be on television or radio.

For the majority of people, being put in front of a camera will cause them to go to pieces, but if you’re a true extrovert, this probably won’t phase you. Above being comfortable in front of a camera, you’ll need to memorise scripts, interview guests and present in a way that keeps the audience engaged.

Working in TV/radio is highly competitive, and most individuals will need to be prepared to accept any form of broadcasting role to get a foot in the door. As you become more experienced, you can pick and choose the areas that you cover and potentially even launch your own show.

With that being said, it’s become easier than ever to launch your own platform. A great way to get experience in this industry is to start your own podcast or YouTube vlog. While this will look great on a CV, many small creators are able to turn their side hustle into a full time career these days.

Teaching

Teaching is one of the most commonly chosen career paths, and it’s a profession that’s needed all over the world. While there’s a teaching role for everyone, most would agree that a career as a teacher is best suited to confident, extroverted individuals. It’s also important to remember that teaching doesn’t have to refer to a school teacher; every industry requires people to pass their knowledge and expertise on to the next generation, which is why many people find themselves moving into teacher/training roles later in their career.

However, if you are considering teaching or tutoring in a school setting, an extroverted personality is often required. You’ll need to be prepared to throw yourself into new situations, speak in front of large crowds and be comfortable in one to one environments.

Your exact role as a teacher will depend on the area you choose to pursue. The most extroverted teachers are often found in elementary school where an animated personality is often the best fit. If teaching older children or adults, the challenge becomes more about building relationships which can also suit extroverts.

Recruitment

Recruitment is cut throat and fast paced. While that might be many people’s idea of hell, it’s likely that an extrovert would thrive in this kind of environment. It’s also likely that you’ll spend the majority of your days on the phone and in meetings, liaising with candidates and employers. This often means dealing with new people, building relationships and managing clients, which you’ll probably handle with aplomb if you’re a people person.

If you like the sound of working on the phone but the recruitment industry doesn’t appeal to you, you may want to consider working for a small business phone answering service like Posh, where you’ll be tasked with providing customer service on behalf of a variety of small businesses.
